OnePara is a browser extension that shows text you select on a web page one paragraph at a time, with optional read aloud. This policy explains what OnePara does with your information. In short, everything stays in your own browser.
What OnePara does not do • It has no servers and makes no network requests of its own. • It does not collect, sell, share or transmit any personal information or browsing data. • It has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
What is stored, and where Settings. Your choices (read aloud, voice, speed, typing, strikethrough and reading memory) are saved with Chrome's extension storage. If you are signed in to your browser with sync turned on, your browser syncs these settings across your devices, as it does for any extension's settings.
Reading history. If "Remember what I've read" is on, OnePara saves, for each page you read with it, the page address (with tracking parameters such as utm_source removed) and short fingerprints of the paragraphs you've read. A fingerprint is a short code made from the text, not the text itself. This history is stored only on your device, is never saved in private or incognito windows, keeps the 500 most recent pages and is never sent anywhere. You can delete one page's history ("Forget this page") or all of it ("Clear reading history") from the OnePara popup, and uninstalling OnePara deletes it all.
Page content. To show your selection paragraph by paragraph, OnePara reads the text on the page you're viewing. This happens entirely within your browser. When you return to a page and start OnePara (or right away, if "Start with space" is on), OnePara compares its paragraphs against your local reading history so it can mark what you've read. Page content is never stored apart from the fingerprints above, and is never transmitted.
Read aloud Read aloud uses the voices built into your browser and operating system. Voices installed on your computer work entirely on your device. Some browsers also offer online voices, such as Google's voices in Chrome. If you choose one of these, your browser sends the text to that provider to turn it into speech, under the provider's privacy policy. OnePara itself does not send text anywhere.
Permissions • Read and change data on websites you visit (optional, off unless you turn it on): only requested if you turn on "Start with space" in the popup. It lets you start reading by selecting text and pressing space on any page, and shows a Resume prompt on pages you've read. You can turn it off at any time. • activeTab and scripting: start OnePara on the current tab only when you use the right-click menu, keyboard shortcut or toolbar button. • contextMenus: add "Read with OnePara" to the right-click menu. • storage: save your settings and local reading history. • tts: read text aloud with your browser's voices.
Children OnePara collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If OnePara ever adds a feature that sends data off your device, such as optional premium voices, it will be explained here before it is released and will only be used if you choose it.
